    First X-Kilt

Not sure if this will work but this is my very first X-Kilt. I am having some issues with the was the first pleat next to the over apron hangs but all and all i would call it a success.

What seems to be commonly known as the gratuitous pleat shot

i'm not 100% satisfied with the front. This is before washing and ironing it does look a little better but the first pleat next to the over apron doesn't seem to sit right

It's not a good idea to upload pics from Facebook. It will not be viewable for others. Try upload your pics to Photobucket or similar and then post a "direct" link in a thread.

Looks like your fell (stitched portion from the waist to where the pleats start to open) is a bit long too. The fell stitching should end at the point where your hips/but are biggest. In your first pic (Doing the Hamish), it looks as though the fell continues all the way around the curve of your buttox and ends at the back of your thigh. When you do that pose, the pleats should hang essentially straight down from your hips/butt. All in all, it looks pretty good...just providing feedback for any second attempts should you choose to do so. Would like to see pics after washing an pressing.

I shall get it washed and ironed and have some new pics posted for the weekend. Thanks for the feedback Longhuntr. i see what your talking about, This is obviously my first attempt to make one but it's also the first kilt i have owned/worn. I am going to make another. I have got all that fabric left over. Not to mention i bought a new sewing machine, (which i barely new how to use when i started hemming down the tops of the pleats)

    Alan thanks for the instructions

Where did you intend the waist to hit? You might solve both the fell and the (slightly long) length issue by hitching it up to "natural" waist vs. where you are used to wearing your jeans, which is lower on your torso.

With chalk all over it, and fresh off the floor/table it's a ragged mess. OK, so big surprise. Let's see it when it's done up right. You might be surprised.

Lnghunter is right, the fell sew-down should only go to the widest part of your butt. Stock kilts like Stillwaters just sew everything down 8 inches and that works for most guys. However, if you are a small or short guy, that may be too long.

On the other hand, while 8 inches works well for me, I sewed the fell down 6 1/2 inches in my last kilt and there haven't been any riots on the streets hereabouts, yet.

Stress not. And in the extremely unlikely event that the kilt sucks, well...you learned a lot making that one. The next one will be better. That is the whole point of the manual.

Ok i see that your talking about with the Fell.I did the measuring... maybe it's because the bar tacking is too long?

Think i should try to fix it. Should i take off the waist band and bring it all down? In those pictures i am wearing it way higher then i am comfortable with.

If i make another i think it will be at jeans waist. But figured i should follow the manual on the first try.

    More criticism welcome and needed.

Are the pleats not flat because the stitching on the outer pleats isn't as straight as it could be?
