Free pattern for Remembrance Poppies (registration required)

Not suggesting that you avoid donating to the cause!. But if you're stuck looking for poppies each year (or would like to wear a more permanent version), here's a little pattern for a knitted version. The site does require you to register before downloading.

If you like the look of the original Legion poppy, here is a simple, more stable way to wear it. Most men have an old tie tac that is not a favourite any more. If it is flat, just glue the black centre from the Legion poppy onto the top of it - contact cement is very permanent. Poke the stem through the hole in the flower and use the backing to secure your 'new' poppy. When it gets worn it is easy to replace with a fresh one. If you glue it, it is not so easy to change.
When the tie tac is a little bigger than the black centre, you may have to file it down (wear safety glasses) and touch it up with black paint. Let it cure before you handle it, you don't want paint on your clothing.
