Gordon boxpleat
Since the photo was taken I have finished the final trimming of threads and pressing. I wore this kilt to my sister's wedding a few weeks ago. A great fit and I loved how light, yet solid, a box pleat in 18oz feels. (edit... I meant 16 oz)

That is one nice looking kilt,
18 ounce should keep you warm and hold a pleat well
You did good!
Now I know what my next box pleat will be
where did you get the wool?

Yipee!
Making a box pleat is a whole different animal.
Looks great, good job.
What do you think about the inside buckle?

oops I should have said 16oz. I do have 10 yards of 18oz Gordon sitting here waiting to become one heck of a bomb-proof knife pleat.

I really like the inside buckle. I used a climbing webbing and snap buckles, It makes it so much easier to put on the kilt and allows for fast fine-tuning of the size. I think i will stay with this system on most, if not all, of my future kilts.

Interesting. Can we get a look at that?

Looks great! I've just ordered a 16 OZ. 4 yard box pleat from STM. Am looking forward to a lighter kilt for warmer weather! You mentioned an "inside buckle." Is that a traditional/standard feature of box pleats? Or was that a personal alteration?

Yeah, that's standard practice. Sewing the pleats is different than on a knife pleat, the distance to the first pleat change is too great for a buttonhole and one doesn't usually cutaway the pleats inside the fell either so those are three hurdles to an exterior buckle on the left side. The webbing buckle is Bruce's creation and I'd love to get a look at that myself.
Nice kilt BTW Bruce. Will we see it at kilt night tomorrow?
