    Hand made felt bonnet

A while back I visit a local Craft Cafe here in Niigata City and saw that they offered felting classing, so I thought when I get some free time I would like to make a navy blue bonnet. So yesterday on my day off I spent 3 hours at the cafe making my 1st ever wool felt bonnet in navy blue. It was a lot of fun to make and turned out pretty nice, it will be perfect for Niigata's long cold winter which is not that far away. To see all the photos of the process check out the link below .

Your bonnet looks great!! Pictures were good, too, but captions would have helped me to understand the process.

Lovely bonnet! Could I echo the request for captions to the pictures so I can understand the process? But, as I said, lovely bonnet!

I just get blank rectangles - I am not a member of flicker.
If you put the photos in Photobucket and post the 'image' into a message here, then the photos will appear in your posts.

Now I can see the photos - first I just got the captions, and then ta dah!!

Very interesting process. I might have to have a go at it with some fleece I have - somewhere.

Wow, what a great way to spend 3 hours. The bonnet looks great. I`m curious as to how durable you think it will be.

Thanks for the comments, as to how durable it will be ?. I have felt hats that were hand made in NZ ( not by me ) that I bought in the mid 1980s that are still fine so I am sure I will have my new bonnet for a very long time. There are many grades of wool and I chose a good medium weight wool for making this bonnet. I think if you make it well it should last forever !

The main enemies are moths and carpet beetles.

Just take care not to leave anything woollen lying around unwashed and uninspected for weeks. Thick sealable plastic bags are a good first line of defence. Putting anything precious into the freezer will keep it safe from the bugs but it needs to be wrapped so it doesn't dry out.
