    Handmade sporran (first attempt ever)

    Hey everybody,

after only 3 weeks wearing a kilt I decided to try my hand at making my own sporran. As I only wear the kilt casually, I wanted something to wear during the day that would give me a bit of flexibility carrying my keys, phone, cards and change. I came up with what I call the satchel sporran.

I used the leather from an old school satchel I bought in Camden town and some material from an ol pair of combats trousers. the extra little pouch at the front comes in very handy for storing change. Handstitched everything as I don't have/can't use a sewing machine.

What does everyone think? Am currently working on my next one which will be a mixture of leather and denim.

Pretty cool interpretation! Been thinking about buckles myself but I'm concerned they may take too long to use and become annoying. Let us know how it works out.

I can see where you're coming from. The buckle I used is very loose and easy to use from all my years using it for work.

Didn't take long, but here we go with sporran number two. I used an old pair of jeans and an old black handbag that I bought from a charity shop. Did something different at the back, putting in both belt loops and a chain, giving me options as to what belt I wear with it. Also used a button and drawstring from a camera as a fastener at the front, which I think looks good and is very practical/speedy to use.

    Hey t_Challa,

You seem to be leaning toward a square motif which is certainly untraditional. Are you just working with what you have on hand or more attracted to an unconventional aesthetic?

Combination of the two. As previously stated, these sporrans are only for daywear and as I only wear my kilt casually, definitely wanted something a bit non-tradtional, but still recognisable as a sporran.

It may not look it from the picture, but the second does have a more rounded bottom when I actually wear it and put stuff in it.

I'm currently sketching some designs for sporran number three which may have a more traditional look.
