    hat patterns?

I've been looking for a pattern to make some Ivy caps, otherwise called driving caps or flat caps.

Anybody got a source? I've googled to no avail.

Could you buy a cheap hat that fits and cut it apart for a pattern?

I haven't been able to find any flat cap paterns either, but getting a cheep one and un-seaming it to make a patern might work out.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Well for the flat cap, you might not have to take the thing apart. I'm looking at one, and the seam is just under the part that snaps onto the bill in the front. In the back, there is one seam...

You might be able to just get a flat cap and derive a patern by looking at the seams. Maybe put one together from scraps and pins based on that, then make the patern from that. Then you'll have two caps.

    http://www.smoke-fire.com/smoke-and-fire-patterns-2.asp For a "scotch bonnet"

both of these include a ''newsboy" cap - might be scalable to what you are looking for.

I also have a half dozen hat patterns (including newsboy and beret patterns) where you knit the item first - oversized, of course - then felt the finished knitting down instead of cutting the pieces out of felt fabric. Let me know if you want links to any of them.

Cool! Thanks for posting those links. If it's not too much trouble, why don't you go ahead and post the other links you have. They could all be in one thread then.

Check out this thread for a list of sites:

Also I went to put on one of the flat driving caps I have had for years and in inter sweat band fell apart. Sine I have been looking for a pattern for a driving cap I'm cutting it apart for a pattern. Hopefully I can post it later this week.
