help in finding fabric quickly
good day all,
this is my first post. a quck intro would be helpful I think. I am a kilt wearer. i wear one everyday, spring, summer, winter fall. I have made several in the past and have bought several. 21st century and utuilikits.
The reason for this post is that I need to make a kilt for a wedding i am standing up in. A casual affair, but I need to make light coloured kilt, a beige, tanny kind of thing. I have no idea wher I can find a nice medium weight wool tweed quickly. I have six weeks to complete this and it will take that long. So any help in locating a source would be of a great help.
Hope to post more and really get involved. This is an awesome resource.
thank you

Welcome to the Rabble!
First off - - from Sunny Southern California, just outside the back gate of Camp Pendleton!
If you want cloth from Scotland, you seem to be out of luck with the six week window. In fact any of the ordered fabrics may just take too long. I would suggest your local fabric store.

Welcome to the rabble from sunny and hot Arizona, you might try contacting Matt Newsome at the tartan museum I think he sometimes sells fabric by the yard.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Welcome from Fort Worth and good luck with your search. I think the advice you've already received about Matt Newsome is your best bet.

Check with Matt first, at the STM. If you really want a wool tweed, perhaps you'll get lucky there.
Next, try Vogue Fabrics in Evanston: voguefabricsstore.com
You may not find wool, AND a tweed, AND a pattern that would make a suitable kilt. But maybe they'd have a nice heavy suiting in a solid color wool blend, or something that would work? I was wondering this weekend about a poly/wool they call "Stonehenge Mulberry Twill," but your specs don't include a dark plum color.
If you strike out all around, Stillwater Kilts has rescued many of our members with a deadline, and USA Kilts (link at top of this page) will take a rush order for a modest surcharge.
