Horse hair sporran WIP
Here is where I started: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...pefully-64499/
I've spent this week getting the back of the sporran together and prepping the other parts while waiting for my hair to arrive.
**Funny aside...Since I am totally bald, half genetically, half on purpose, my wife laughed everytime I asked if my hair had come in yet.
Well, my hair came in yesterday. I have done plenty of leatherwork, but nothing with long hair. Tonight I am asking myself what have I gotten into. All that hair is a little overwhelming. I am actually going to have to take my time on this sporran.
Following the links inside the link above I have studied and restudied NorCalPiper's instructions.
Having three young girls (4years, 1.5year, 6months) who think the hair is pretty, I can only work on it after they go to bed.
Here is what I have so far:
Inside of the sporran with gusset sewn onto the back.

Back of sporran.

Front of sporran body, canvas that the hair will be sewn onto and cantle that has a Sam Brown stud to fasten the flap.

Tassels glued up.

I do not have any chain small enough so I have made some cordage to hang the tassels. It is B50 bowstring material. It is also what I am sewing with.

Here I have the first run of hair sewn on and glued.

I think I will stop there tonight and let my nerves settle before sewing on the rest of the hair.

Update
I have all of the hair sewn on:

I added some pinked red leather to the leather tassel bells:

Here it is before putting it all together:

So far nothing catastrophic.

Flemish twist sporran cordage. Why didn't I think of that?
