Congratualtions on the kilt, on being kilted, and on choosing a good woman with whom to share you life. We will be anxiously awaiting your pix, so hurry.

Leave this one together and make another! This will serve as a reminder of where you started.
As for the bride... I have the same issue. She fully supports my kilt wearing, but she's not about to let me start aquiring road kill for sporran making.

You mentioned it was cheap WalMart cloth. That was the intent of the X-kilt - low startup costs. Do another. You'll have two and the second one will be better than the first.
Also, don't do your stitching when you're supposed to be sleeping. (Voice of experience...)

In three years I've done many roadkill investigations and only two roadkill "harvests" - OK, three - but none have made it to sporran stage, for various reasons. You should be able to find pelts at local taxidermy shops, highland games, mountain man rendevous, via mail order, or online, esp. eBay.
Do not run afoul of the missus. (More voices of experiences...)

What? No huge octopus sporran? No tarpon sporran? I'm so saddened...

Lots of neat's foot oil... that's all you need!
(Or, if you're a redleg, you can use GAA)
