    Inverness Cape pattern

    Hi y'all.

I want to make an Inverness Cape -- lined wool. Probably black.

    Has anyone made this pattern?

Any other commercially available patterns? I've found a variety of cutting patterns from the era, but they assume a lot of knowledge that I don't have, so I need a detailed pattern.

You might want to look at the Cutter's practical guide
Page 83 has an Inverness cape.

    Cheers,

If you see abbreviations, initials or acronyms you do not know the Xmarks FAQ section on abbreviations may help.

You may be surprised how little knowledge you really need. I worked from a very small PDF I found online, and used it to create a fleece Inverness for myself. My wife liked it so much she had me make one for her too. I would have made more too if I had a sewing machine that could make buttonholes in something that thick.

There are only a few pieces, and if you're used to working with patterns you can probably figure out how and when to sew and turn, and what steps you need to take when.

WClarkB showed up at our Burns Supper last year dressed to the nines wearing an Inverness cape he made. I would recommend sending him a PM; the thing was beautiful.
