    Kilts 2 and 3

I finished kilts 2 and 3--ACU camo and tan. These are for my grandsons. With each one I learned more.

After successfully completing 3 plain fabric kilts, I'm feeling confident enough to take on tartan fabric for my next project.

Wow, I wish you were my grandmother! But then that would make you about 108, so I am sure you are glad you're not. Great job. Did you use velcro on the straps? Way cool and in keeping with the cammo theme.

Man, you didn't mess around with the pleats. When I do a contemporary I usually max out at about 18 pleats. Good job. Just a thought, you might think about sewing down the edges of the pleats, all the way from fell to hem. Of course you don't sew them closed, like you do at the fell, you just sew them so that the pleat edge is always defined and "relatively crisp"....sort of. It's a thought for some future kilts, maybe.

If you sew up a wool kilt, you don't need to do this, as wool will take a hard-pressed pleat and keep it without stitching. cotton/polyester....not so much.

I tried pressing and wasn't happy with the results, especially knowing that my grandsons are unlikely to do any ironing. So I did sew down the pleats, but I didn't do the tan one until after I took the photos. Each one has 26 pleats.
