Knitted wool kilt hose garter ties

I'm experimenting with kilt hose garter ties. I don't have an inkle loom so I thought I'd try knitting some simple garters.

I found a pattern on Ravelry, unfortunately the link to the pattern is no longer active. The image was enough to see that they are a simple garter stitch with fringe at each end. I made them about 30" long so they would wrap twice around.

I'll give them a go with my renaissance faire outfit tomorrow. I need to make some tartan fabric kilt hose to go with them.

Fine job! Only on close inspection would it be known that they are not woven

They look like little tiny simple scarfs. What size needles did you use for those?

    .
The garters look nice, glad you found a workaround to an inkle loom. If you have any woodworking tools, some dowel and some pine or other wood you can make an inkle loom quite easily. Below are a couple of photos of the looms Jennifer and I have. I taught her how to use tools safely when she made the smaller loom and I made the larger one for both an inkle loom and a warping board.

I don't knit, yet, but like the garters you came up with. You should be able to make any colour you wish to spiff up your kit.

US size 5 (3.5 mm). Worsted weight 100% wool yarn I picked up from a local source (or maybe Lion Brand Fisherman - my left-over yarn stash is a bit disorganized). Cast on eight stitches. 30 inches long.

I'm going to do a second pair using size 4 and the same yarn. I'll probably experiment with other yarns.

I've been thinking about trying an inkle loom. So many crafts, so little time.
I'll get around to making one someday. Thanks!
