Knitting pattern for kilt hose?
Does anyone have, or know where I can get, a good knitting pattern, or patterns, for kilt hose?

I have the Folkwear pattern instructions. It's a knee-length argyle with a cuff. I'd be happy to send it to you because I will never need it!

I recently found a really nice and inexpensive book of sock patterns in which there was a beautiful pattern for what they called "knee-high's", it looked exactly like the kilt hose I've been seeing - it had several page of instructions and patterns. I found this book at a Pacific Fabrics store near me. You might check out the sewing/fabric/craft stores in your area.

If you see abbreviations, initials or acronyms you do not know the Xmarks FAQ section on abbreviations may help.

My wife makes use of the following references. Designs for Knitting Kilt Hose & Knickerbocker Stockings, by Veronica Gainford (originally published in 1978, reprinted 2006); Knitting Scottish Kilt Hose & Hiking Socks, by Joanne Gibson Hinmon (2000); and Cables Untangled: An Explanation of Cable Knitting, by Melissa Leapman. This last book is not a kilt hose book, but it has lots of great cable patterns that can be incorporated easily into hose.
Of course, it helps if you know the ins and outs of knitting regular socks. She rarely follows a pattern exactly, but ends up modifying it to use some new heel technique she's read about, etc.
I did a recent blog posting highlighting some of the hose she has knit for me:
