    Latest project

Well, about a year ago I bought a sgian dubh kit from Rob at Loch Ness Origins, and yesterday, I finally got around to finishing it. I don't think he's got any competition from me, but I'm happy with it.

The finished article in its sheath

    And out of it

Detail of embedded clan crest (lousy quality due to our camera...)

And the carving of the 'pommel' (again lousy quality image...)

As it's the first carving I've done for about 30 years, that was the intent. The next one I try will probably have a more decorative carved handle.
The handle is oak. Used balistoil to bring out the grain, really gives it a lovely tiger stripe effect.

One thing I will say about Rob's blades, when he says he's sharpened it, he really means it!!!!! I put the crest in as a last minute thing (was a lapel pin that was not very well attached to the pin), I had to be VERY careful...
