Modded high-tops!
[NB: For those who might not know, "modded" in this context is an abbreviation of the word "modified".]
Hi all,
well, in the interest of still having functioning knees after this summer, bought myself some really vivid cyan blue No Fear high-tops with smooth-ish soles last week in a sale to use as throwing shoes, and while I love them, the wall-to-wall, unrelenting, almost day-glo colour was making me look at my Heritage of Scotland kilt (black, dark blue, purple) and go "eeuuurgh" at the thought of combining the two!
Then my youngest daughter walked past in a pair of pink Converse that she'd "graffiti'd" on with Sharpies in all the colours of the rainbow, and I had a genuine "lightbulb" moment!
Actually the Converse mod hadn't worked too well - the colours blotted and ran somewhat the first time it rained. But, I reasoned to myself, these No Fear boots are made of (checks label) "coated leather" and not hessian sacking like Converse, and so the Sharpies might stand a better chance of staying put if I, say, for the sake of argument, coloured-in the boots in imitation of the Heritage of Scotland tartan...
I am proud to share with you all what I hope will be a triumphantly oddball, but hopefully appropriate-looking, pair of boots:
This is more or less what they looked like originally. The flash has bleached out the blue quite a bit - it really is VERY bright. I forgot to do a "before and after", but this is just after I started work on the second boot, with most of the cyan still visible:

Decided on the placement/orientation of the design for the front of the shoe, and made a start:

Then added in the purple and generally tidied up:

The results, when extended to the side panels as well:

Not perfect, but I'm pleased with the general effect so far. And you can now see why I need plain coloured kilt hose with all this pizzazz going on round my ankles.
I promise, I'll wear these for my first kilt photo very soon!

I hope beyond hope that those stand up to wear because in my mind they are just too totally cool! Very well done!
