MY Day Wear Horse Hair
So I more or less joined to show this off to people that care (other than my GF, who seems to be fine with using this as a purse)....
I've been kitting up for my first kilted adventures, which will be St. Paddy's day. I work leather when I need to, so I figured I'd make myself a sporran... and I always liked horse hair. I've never been overly impressed with the lack of practicality that comes with a full dress bandsman's sporran, so I made my own with plenty of storage space... even though it kicks the hair out from the apron, I still like it.
Here's the bag:

It's got neodymium magnets for a quick and easy closure.
Here's the gusset for roominess:

Here's the back side.... with the strap loops:

Here's the "hairpiece" in process (one of three layers attached):

And finally, here's the finished product:

Lessons learned:
-1lb of horse hair is a lot more than you'd think (brown)
-1/4lb of horse hair is ALSO a lot more than you'd think (black)
-trimming horse hair straight isn't easy.
-sewing over horse hair with glue on it..... isn't easy.
-rare earth magnets will pinch the snot out of you.
I don't have a kilt yet, but once it delivers, I'll be sure to show ya'll the finished product in use!

Ooooh! I like that a lot! Everything about it is great, and I think the hangers on the back are simple and classy.

I really like that sporran. As for your lessons learned, I agree with all of them.
