    My First X-kilt

Here is the result of my first x-kilt. This was done as an exercise in the mechanics of making a kilt and therefore I chose a CHEAP fabric. This decision shows in the weight of the fabric and made it necessary for me to sew a little differently that if I had used a heavier fabric.

Also, I chose a "tartan" to help me understand how to deal with the pattern of tartans in making a kilt.

And the Pleat shot. You can see where the pleats pull and show the white stripe underneath. This was because the fabric was so light and I also stitched further from the pleat edge that I should.

Here is a close-up of the pleats. I didn't read far enough ahead and stitched the pleats all the way up above the fell before bar-taking and sewing down the pleats. (Oops) Since this was intended as a learning project I didn't bother to take out the stitching.

All in all I learned a great deal. Hopefully my next project will be turn out well and will be something that I will want to wear in public.

    A Question

Here are photos of the "underpleating". I don't think that I quite understood the depth here.

    You're kidding.

That's not your first effort at kiltmaking, is it? SHEESH! You should see the monstrosity I cobbled together, you'd feel like one of the Nicholbys in comparison.
