This is a kilt that i started working on last Saturday after I got The Art of Kilt Making by Barb T. It's been a blast working with it so far and I've been enjoying every minute of it! Right now I have already marked the aprons and pleats and have just today finnished folding and stitching all of the pleats together. I know it isn't the best job in the world... but it's still pretty good for a first time making a kilt by the book. I'll be posting pics of me finnishing parts of it throughout the time im making it. Here are the pleats (like I said... not perfect) Here is the deep pleat Here is the inverted pleat And here are a couple of close ups of the stitches

kilted in Brooklet :)
just in case you all were wondering... I don't know if my fabric is any certain tartan or not... I just bought something I could practice making a kilt with from Hobby Lobby, and I liked the way the pattern looked.
Looking good. I know I'll be keeping my eyes on this thread. Isn't it astounding how many little details are in that book?
It amazes me! I got real excited when I first got it and flipped through it. The pictures and drawings are a great help to me too... I'm a very visual learner. So far my two sisters have asked me to make kilts for them when they get back from Basic Combat Training, and my little sister has asked me to make her a mini kilt for St. Patrick's Day next year. I have no idea how to go about that... I guess it's like making a min version of the kilts in the book And my dad and brothers have asked for a kilt too lol.

You give me confidence to try it myself.
To get a picture in your post, you would enter the following: [img]the web address that your pic is hosted at, basically the same as you posted from photobucket but instead of use the code I mentioned[/img] However, you pics are kinda like looking at porn. Dad, sisters, Brothers? You're going to be sick of making kilts soon. Lovely work by the way.
I love those DIY projects. Please, hurry up and show us the and product.
I like the breeze between my knees
Here is an update on progress so far... I've already done the recomended changes to the underapron and deep pleat so that they won't show when wearing the kilt. Tonight I finnished basting the pleats into place for pressing. here are some photos
I recommend having a look at Marton Mills PV. The stuff is pretty nice and not so expensive that it hurts to make one that isn't wearable. Perhaps for your next one after this one. I did the same thing for my first attempt at kiltmaking. I bought some stuff that had a tartan like pattern at the fabric store for like $4 a yard I think it was. I'm finishing my third attempt right now. I've learned from my mistakes so far. Keep at it. It only gets easier.
