New semi dress sporran DIY #9

I tried some different details on the flap and front of this piece. Hope you can see them as they turned out fairly decent on the actual sporran. This one was made from recycled leather from a old unused jacket. I cut out the shapes and assembled the front first, then glued a couple of layers of leather on either side of some dollar store placemat (also cut to shape). This stiffened up the back
and flap without making them too brittle. Then stitched the back and front to the gusset and trimmed out the piece. The final sporran is very roomy, quite light and looks not too bad when the light hits it right.

I have quite a few designs I've been working on and would like to know if anyone would be interested in a collaboration on a new type of sporran. If so PM me and maybe we can set up a group/room or thread for sporran developers.

My questions are technical and many. I need a new sporran and may PM you after I find the right large handbag (or two) from the local thrift shop. I like the idea of stiffening with placemats. I expect it would work on back of a fur pelt also (I'm trying to decide if I need a showier sporran). I first will have to prepare the Bobcat hide I have to make the conversion.

This shows a lot of craftsmanship and artistry. Very well done. Thank you for sharing.

Very interesting work. I'd consider this more a day sporran than semi-dress because of the lack of fur. That's a good thing as far as I'm concerned. It's ornate and eye catching but could still be worn well with day tweeds or with a Black Argyll.

    Well done.
