Pink Ivory Sgian Dubh
Finished this one up today after being delayed in the shop for the last week or so. The handle is Pink Ivory which is an African hardwood that works like cocobolo wood. The stone is reconstituted amber. What do y'all think of the handle shape and the way I pinned the stone? Trying to see if it is something I am going to do again.

Very nice. Anyone would be proud to slip that along their calf....or at least I would.
Great work.

That handle is beautiful, and the spacer between handle and "stone" is nicely balanced and finished. You asked specifically about the pinning. . . given the photo, I'd have to say I don't care for it. Looks more like a repair than an original construction method. What does the head of the pin look like? From here, it almost looks like a small screwhead. If it were more decorative (or if it is, and just doesn't show at this angle) or perhaps countersunk into the stone, my opinion might change.
Overall, very nice looking!

I am always enthused by amber, and this looks great. I also used to dabble in "silver beading" which brought my eye immediately to your pin work. I like it. It gives a simple, clean look. I've not seen " pink ivory" before, so many thanks for the photo.

I love that woods grain and the shape is very cool.

Is that the end of the tang that you peened to hold the amber and handle on? As I am a big fan of Scandinavian knives, I happen to like it.

That's how it looks to me, and it's a very traditional approach. I like it too.

Thanks fellas, I had to agree with Sydnie7 so I took the peen down a little farther to give it a more finished look. Finished the sheath today and hope to start on some commisions real soon. Thanks for the input, it helps me get an idea of what looks "right"

Wow, "flatness" makes all the difference! Beautiful work from stem to stern.
