    Playing with a day sporran design.

    I'm trying to decide if the brass shield shape adds as much as I think it does to this design. What does the rabble think?day sporran.jpg

    I like the sporran a great deal, but I'm not crazy about the shield shape to be honest. I find it too distracting from the beauty of the rounded, more rustic/hunting qualities of this sporran design.

    I think it would look better with some sort of ROUND shield design out of leather, or a metal one with a Celtic/Pictish/Viking pattern pierced or chased on it.

    Just my two cents. I'm positive that there will be plenty of opinions to come along shortly that contradict mine.

    BTW, I'm copying your image below so that it appears in the thread, without the need to click a link:

    I think that the shield shape sticks out in a rather ad hoc fashion vs. the generally rounded shape of the sporran. If you were to find something round in shape, it would aesthetically fit the sporran design better, and not look like an add on.

    I REALLY like the design you have come up with, and don't think that you have to add anything to the center if you don't want to. There is enough going on with the various textures and adornment that it holds one's interest without any "bling".

    Assuming that your comment is legitimate, and not an attempt to be cute;

    As can be clearly discerned, I have listed my Scottish as well as my other ancestry, including the Welsh and German branches. To be specific about which region of Germany my relatives hale from, I've listed Prussia.

    Now, back to the original topic.

    Another good looking sporran. I don`t think the shield works too well. If you really wanted to add something, I think it should be circular, and centered within the existing circle. As Mike says, it looks very nice just the way it is. Sometimes less is more.
