Practice Kilt done, Time for the Real Thing
Finally got the book "The Art of Kilt Making" and had a relatively successful practice run with an inexpensive non-tartan wool, so it's time for the real thing now. Here are the results so far...

Pleating done and basted. Off to cut the pleats now

The pleats are cut, one little mistake, I started cutting the button hole pleat like all the rest. Caught myself early and stitched it up, it will be hidden so I don't see a problem
Stabilizer in and canvas attached
Now just finishing the edges, waistband, the straps and lining.

Very nice McG.
What kind of sewing machine do you use? or did you sew by hand? I need a hobby. Thinking about tinkering around making a kilt. My wife says I should learn to sew first. She does have a point.

You don't need a seweing machine. If you get the book "The Art of Kiltmaking" learn how to make a kilt and all stitches you need. And what is sewing? Bringing a needle up and down through a piece of cloth.

Kristof is right, like any skill it just requires practice so don't invest a lot in expensive fabric on your 1st attempt. This one is sewn by hand except for attaching the waist band, just a simple straight stitch so any machine would do. Get the book "The Art of Kiltmaking" you can't go wrong

Some finished pics. Quite happy with the results, a couple of small issues I'll point out in the last picture, not sure what's going on comments would be appreciated
   
This last closer look you can see under the apron and a bit of the lining. The pleats to the left seem to lift up and out a bit at the top, maybe both issues could be fixed with pressing? Any other thoughts?
