Question Rare Earth Magnet Size and other questions

I have a few questions about rare magnets. I know a lot of you use them so I figured i would ask.

-Where is the best place to order them online (ie cheapest, best quality)?

-What size should I order? They seem to come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. I want to use a pair for a sporran closure (through leather if possible) and a few for kilt pins.

-What is the best way to attach them to metal, and leather? Any particular type of glue?

    Thanks
    Sean

    Hmm...
I just use pair magnet/shield from old hdd without any glue. Holds only by magnetic field. It moved from place only in dance. There's only one notice - object used as kiltpin have some relief on back surface to hold on fabric. I've tried flat one before - it falls down often.

Thanks for the link. Will the little 1/4" 3/8" attract well through leather? Also is it better to have 2 magnets or 1 magnet and a steel washer?

I find one magnet with a steel washer to be very efficient. That is a great link, if you go to the "acc" link in that link it explains how two washers can improve the strength by puting one behind the magnet and one opposite for it to close onto.

Why have the leather in between? If you have a washer on the outside of the front of the sporran and the magnet on the inside of the flap there is nothing to reduce the strength. You may want to cover one side with thin fabric to stop them snapping together.

Has anyone who uses the rare earth magnets had any problem with the magnetic field and things in the sporran, i.e. credit cards, electronic pass cards etc.?

Although I have heard people say that there are problems, I have never had a credit card or hotel key damaged by being in my one sporran that has magnets.

I've used them on several kilt pins. The only problem I have experienced is that sometimes, if you're not careful, getting into a car the magnets prefer the metal of the car body and the pin can be detached from the kilt. I've learned to be careful getting in and out.
