Red, WHite & Blue Horsehair Sporran
Ok, so about 7 years ago, I made a Horsey Sporran to go with my American Bicentennial Kilt. There wasn't a pictorial how to article at the time.. so I didn't get it exactly right. And I really didn't want to buy one, so I could reverse engineer it. (well not take it apart, but to kind of get an idea as to how it works)

So when I got the horsehair, I got a bunch.. enough likely for 4 or 5 Commercial sporrans.. The Died stuff is EXPENSIVE..

A Wheel Foot comes in handy. IT kind of helped spread the hairs evenly too.

I then Gorrila glued the panels. *next time i might do Epoxy*
So after reading a tutorial, I tried doing it this way.

I then tried it this way, with a bunch of holes, pulling each wee lock af hair through witha rug / crochet hook..

I then decided, to do it this way, with a gazillion holes instead of just a bunch.

AND next time I might do smaller holes, and a slimmer rug hook.
Side view.. I am layering so it shows red, white and blue from both the side, and front

A peek at the hairy tangled mess in the back... I am also hiding some reds in there, so they do not get played again..

And while I was doing the brass tubing thingies, I did a few "mustache" bits, with the tubing in the middle.

The Tubing once gorilla glued, is a nice wee capsule. In theory, Urethane does not bond with brass.. so one could remove the tubes. Well, anyway, its a Texas Big Hair Trick, that *I think* might help it fill out and look bigger (wider) in spots.
And now for a panel that hides the hairy mess, and for a pouch, back and bolt the cantle on.

Full disclose, I am a Hobbyist, who has been known to sell things. Mostly BAg Covers, and "esoteric" bagpipe parts and accessories.
I have no intention whatsoever of selling this Sporran.

It's different! I commend you for trying It.
If you wish to wear it with a blue background Kilts, I'd recommend version 2 have the red on the outside and blue in the middle to stop the blue merging with the kilt colour.
Would be good to wear if there were an aerobatic display ( Such as the Red Arrows) , as you already have " Smoke on "
Would I wear it? probably not, But outside of pipers and the Military, horse hair sporrans are a bit over the top for me.

Very interesting!
Multi-coloured horsehair sporrans aren't unknown in the British army: the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards' pipers' sporrans have mingled bodies of various grey tones, and the tassels are mingled black and red, making for one of the most handsome horsehair sporrans ever.
Here it is

Based on how theirs are made, it would be cool to see a sporran with a white body and mingled red and blue tassels, or visa versa.

Blue up the middle, I might try that. Nothing is set in stone yet.
I am not much on Horsehair either, the Band I play with likes hair sporrans and a "military look".. so... there are times I wear it. And Spats... oh boy, I really dislike those. I plan to make a good pair from real canvas (proper hemp fiber canvas) that are about 2" taller, so I can wear them with my Jump Boots.

In old photographs I've noticed that the spats of The Gordon Highlanders are taller than of the other kilted regiments, just another of those odd old "tribal" distinctions.

Finally finished it, after re-organizing the colors. I might redo the leather "shield thingie" part, (not sure what to call it) under the cantle. If I find my squigly scalloped rotary cutter.
The Pouch

The back is kind of a mess.. but it will work. I didn't have red thread handy. It has a wee pocket for musicians ear defenders.

I went with Velcro to close the pouch, and make it stay closed. There is a pocket inside that you can see, leather, and one you cant that is Tencel which I like to call "Tree Huggers nightmare" (its a fabric made from trees).
