Neat idea for using hem bonding tape!
I have several SportKilt flannel Comfy kilts that I only wear around the house and one Original in digital desert camo.
First one I washed lost all sign of a pleat. This made pining the pleats to hang dry a real chore.
I stitched 1/8 of an inch in from all the outer pleat knife edges. Just to make the pinning easier as now I only have to align the edge to the tartan under it. Then straighten and "pat in" the under pleat between my hands while the kilt is still damp.
Now when I receive a new comfy the first thing I do is stitch in the "factory pressed" outer pleat edges while its still crisp.
Flannel is great for keeping warm in the winter. I may not hold a crease but it will not hold a wrinkle either. After the first day or two of wearing, the unstitched inner pleat is gone but the outer pleat edge is showing enough than it looks more kiltish than just looking like a rag around my waist.
Hoping your flannel is thicker than mine as these thin flannel Comfy puppies are super wind prone.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.
