seat covers from tartan?
Hello all
I thought about making a set of car seat covers from tartan, how does pv, or 16 oz or heavier wool compare? Is any kilt material really heavy enough for this? If so what are pros/cons for material type, cleaning ability, wear, breathability, odors, etc? How about resistance to sunlight/fading?

Jeez 16 oz wool seat covers would be a bit on the pricey side wouldn't they? And they wouldn't be that durable, especially if you transported kids and dogs, or just messy people in general. PV would last longer and be cheaper, and I guess you could throw them in the wash whenever. A bit too luxurious for me I'm afraid, but they would definitely be cool.

These would be 2 front buckets in a 70-72 Dart street/strip car. No dogs, not alot of driving in general, but lots of sunshine.
It would be a bit spendy but I figure less than 2 yards each seat. In a popular "less expensive" tartan, shouldn't be any more than leather?

As for the fading....I bought a Pendleton pattern wool steering wheel cover from Navajo Spirit. Came with two sort of seat belt wrap around deals in matching pattern. They didn't work for me so I put them on the dash cover.
They're about two years old and have faded a lot. The steering wheel cover has faded a lot. There were some threads here some years ago about wool fading.
Since you're in Big Sky country too would guess you'd have similar fading where the sun reached it.
