Second kilt - made in three days.

With the things I didn't like about kilt #1 fresh in my mind, I threw together this 6 yard one in one of my cheaper tartans over three days -
One night messing with different pleating options, choosing the one I liked most, and pinning the pleats.
Another night sewing the pleats and fringe.
A day off sewing the stabilizer, canvas, waistband, liner, and buckles.

These pictures were taken after wearing the kilt for a 9-hour work day.

Very happy with it for one and two half day's work.

I got compliments from customers for my bravery wearing a kilt with no special occasion in "small town" Minnesota.
I got compliments for undertaking the project of making it.
I got compliments for successfully pairing a kilt with Abercrombie and Fitch.
And I can't tell how many times I had to say "Yeah, I wear something under it - can't you see my shoes?"

Dang! You turn out a kilt pretty quickly for a DIY project, and with good results. From the pics I'd say you've got a lot of talent. Keep it going.

FWIW, I'm a small-town-no-occasion-needed kiltie too. People get used to it...then they only notice when you wear pants.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

Cool. Can you do a stage by stage photo-log when you make the next one? It would be interesting to see it coming together. Cheers!

Wow, I see folks here talking about sewing their own kilt and it has always seemed a daunting task (to someone like me who never did more than sewing a button back on), yours looks great and done over a weekend so to speak. Awesome work!

I now live in a smaller town as well, I know folks are surprised to see a kilt but I am sure after a few years they will get used to it.

Very nice, and good choice on the pleating. Like the others, impressed by the quick job.

    Thanks for the compliments, all.
English Bloke - This weekend, I'm thinking I'll make a 4-yard box pleat in Dress Gordon. If I do, I'll take photos along the way... Though I risk revealing how sloppy my workmanship really is.
Today several people asked variations of the question "No Scottish Skirt today?" so I guess I'm already leaving a mark.

Haha - thanks for the vote of confidence, but there's a good chance it'll end up being a big, old "What not to do" article.
