Sgian Achlais-Dirk-First Celtic knotwork carving.
Hello All!
I would like to show off some recent work of mine. I hand forged all the blades, and harvested the wood from local Laurel shrubs-a.k.a. 'false boxwood', which has a decent hardness, and a grain which I found to be well suited for carving.....Even with my cheapo carving tools!

Yes, these first examples are rather crude and amateurish, but I don't mind. For the longest time I had been intimidated by the prospect of carving knotwork, but am now merely seeking to practice and improve.
Any comments or criticisms most welcome....Especially those who have experience carving designs such as these.
Thanks for looking.

No, you are not. Images are broken for me as well.

I expect it feels good to have the project finished. "This is what I did," are words that get respect. Good job.

Image guy to the rescue again. You have to use the IMG hyper link option in Photobucket for the photos to appear in the post:

Brasilikilt,
Your sgian achlais looks fine! Stain it, put an oil finish on it and handle it for a while, and it will get that used patina on it. Your carving is 100% better than what I can do, and I strongly suspect it will become better with practise and time! Good job!

Looks good. What did you use for the blades? I have a big old farrier's rasp that I've started forging into a dirk. Unfortunately I lost my "trip hammer". My 6'2" 220 lb champion wrestler grandson went into the Marines. Kind of slows the project down a bit.
All skill and effort is to no avail when an angel pees down your drones.
