Then, at the last minute
I had a length of Xmarks tartan left over from another project, so I decided to make a vest. I was going to try it myself, but at the last minute, I decided to seek a registered hobbyist to make it for me. I was in conversation with an Xmarker when, at the last minute, I found a local seamstress who said she could make it for me. I was about to go meet her when at the last minute, I decided to do it myself. I was going to cut on the bias, but I got intimidated and at the last minute, I chose to cut it on the square.
It was my first attempt. The sett didn't line up the way I planned, but at least the lines line up. My shirt needs a good ironing and my sporran is slightly off center (it's the sporran, not the vest). It's not perfect. I am not completely happy with it, but I tried. I think it's still wearable.

It's also a tad long. Note how it covers part of the cantle of my sporran.

C'est la vie

For a man who changes his mind so often that is very good going, in my opinion...
I think it is perfectly wearable, and it is probably best that the sides are mirror imaged, or you'd have the more prominent white stripe running shoulder to waist one side and as you have it on the other - which would look distinctly odd.

Then at the last minute you made a fantastic waistcoat. Just tuck the points behind your cantle. Looking good!

Top effort mate. I've just acquired a sewing machine and started having a dabble here and there - I fancy a go at a waistcoat and if I match your standard I'd be well pleased!

I might decide to just make it a bit shorter.
