A tribute to honour my Grandfather
My Grandfather was a WW2 veteran having served in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps as part of the 5th Canadian Armoured Brigade overseas. But many years after that he would be tasked with a much more difficult job, that being a role model for a young lad who would one day follow in his foot steps. That lad of course being me. A little under a year ago I decided to honour my late Grandad by designing the Jack Hawes Memorial tartan.
The begining was a thought on the screen,

Then that idea became manifest in 16oz Jura from Marton Mills,

Then that fabric was measured and cut and layed out,

Pleated to the green stripe to represents the fields and forests that were so much a part of his and my life.

Time to sew.

Glad to have my family with me to share the meaning of this day, and to keep the spirit of our family alive.

Glad to see this thread back up. Thanks Mods for the quick attention to the error, and the equally quick replacement.

Re: A tribute to honour my Grandfather
I found this incredibly moving. I'm used to the feeling of having a link to my late grandfathers through items of clothing, jewellery, or tools that they owned. The idea of being able to communicate "back upstream" by giving a departed loved one the gift of a tartan design is stunning.
And lovely work.
Cheers,
John

A great tribute and I'm sure he'd be proud. I did the same for my grandfather and know the work and and joy of such an act. Good for you!

Wow. I have no words. That is wonderful on so many levels (nicely made kilt too, by the way). All 'round "Well done!"

Really nice tribute. It's a very well designed tartan and you did an outstanding job on the kilt!
As we say in the USN, Bravo Zulu.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.
