Waists on kilts
A question for the masses?
TANKS are worn (on average) two inches above the natural waist, read belly button.
Jeans and Khaki’s tend to be worn at the hips. Contemporary kilts, like the X-kilt seem to go between the two.
Are there kilts made or kilt makers making kilts to be worn at the hips like jeans? I've toyed with the idea and can't decide if I like it or how awkward this looks?
Thoughts or opinions?
Thanks,
Don

There are some out there that do this, take a look at USA kilts casual model if you are looking for tartan, if you want a more contemporary look I am sure there are many out there that have them at the desired length.

You can have the Kilt made any length you like , to sit where ever you like.

It was just this sort of question that led me to offer each customer his choice of "Fit". I realized that those who were comfortable with the higher waist of a Traditional Kilt would like a Contemporary to sit there too.
Those who had never worn a kilt or those who have only worn a UK style Kilt would probably prefer a Low Rise kilt.
If you watch my video you will see me explain the different options of "Fit" and apply it to preference and also body type.
Go to the FK section, the video is a sticky so it is the first entry. You can also see the video on my website by clicking on the FK Logo above.

The high waist looks more in proportion for most people - if you do make or buy a kilt to wear at jean waist level you might consider also wearing it slightly longer than traditional - people with short legs relative to their height really should not do this - believe me.
I have been making clothes for a long time and the proportions of an outfit can make or break it.
If you carry extra weight then wearing your kilt high will be far more flattering. You might need to have the waist made two or even four inches larger, but it won't make you LOOK larger - quite the reverse, as it will fall straighter.
Try standing in front of a long mirror with a towel or piece of material and hold it at different heights, fold it to different lengths, so you can see how different styles of kilt would look on you.

Awesome!
I wanna thank everyone.
Jamie cleaned up my title.
There seems to a little rule on kilts, its less how or why you wear one, just as long as you wear one.
Again, thank to for the great advice, tips and suggestions.

Steve,
Very good video, it and your site are now in my favorites. Great information and support for your customers.
Its made me rethink where I'll wear my kilt.
I think it was pleater, but maybe I just need to play a little with the length and cut.
Great info and thanks again!
