    Waste not

I had some leftovers from fringing a fly plaid so I thought I'd try to make some long garters from them. These are about 1.5-1.75 inches wide. I ran a stich along the entire perimeter to limit unraveling. They are about 58 incehs long and wrap twice around with enough left to make quite a flash. Might want to hit them with an iron, though.

What do you think? This is the original garter method, BCE (before the coming of elastic)

They look great! How do they feel by comparison with the elastic flashes? Is that your box pleated kilt from Wages? It looks great too.

They look excellent Turpin, those are the only type of flash I wear anymore as the elastic kind just are not comfortable and more often than not they dig into your leg.

I think they look great. I myself would probably shorten them just a little to give less "flash" poking out.

They are more comfortable than elastic. Basically you just wind them around the leg and they hold the hose without constricting. You want to put the sgian dubh in before you wind becasue tartan doesn't have the same give as the knit garter ties selling at the STM gift shop. I made a pair out of the leavings from my Weathered Gordon as well.

The kilt is indeed a box pleat by MacWage. We worked out a little trade for sporrans plus cloth. See previous post about what makes a professional kiltmaker.

Looks good. I would have expected them to be on the bias. That would give more stretch.
