Wedding Accessories
Someone requested a photo of the cap badge I made for my groom's Balmoral bonnet. I used a scrap of the green silk from making my dress, cut it into the shape of a pentagon (Army brat visual pun) and interfaced it with heavy-duty sewn-in pellon. I then used frog pins to attach his USAF navigator's wings through the green silk and the satin rosette on the cap.

Others: I did not care for the doughnut-shaped fly brooch that came with his kit. We ordered another, silver with malachite, but it was too small to carry the fly plaid. I rigged a bit of green wool fabric to support the small pin, then wrapped the big circular fly brooch with a scrap of blue silk and some tartan ribbons. I was then using just the pin mechanism of the original fly brooch. For the wedding, I pinned his red rosebud on the fly plaid, hiding the corsage pin under the fly brooch.

My fly brooch was a piece I had made several years ago. It is three large pieces of malachite, set into a large gold half-circle. Originally, this was a pendant made by Eustorgio Huizar, a local jeweller trained in Mexico. Over the years, the pendant proved too heavy for any of my chains. My friend, Rose Anderson of Bainbridge Jewelers in Vancouver, Washington, attached a heavy-duty pin to the back of the piece. I used it as a fly brooch with my Buchanan ancient sash, and later with the Armstrong ancient sash given to me by my new husband.

Rose also made our wedding rings (not shown) to a design I sketched and she perfected. They are yellow gold with Celtic braids (three evokes the Holy Trinity, and the married couple as partners with God) with cabochon blue sapphires set in. Sapphire in Celtic tradition symbolizes fidelity.
Finally, I made myself an evening bag to go with my dress. I traced off a Buzz Kidder sporran and made the gusset double-deep. The bag is fully lined with green silk and has two zippered pockets in it.

I also made our Orthodox wedding crowns, but I doubt that they are of interest here. I have previously posted photos of the blue and green kilt hose I knitted for his wedding outfit.

I am not having any success with uploading pictures here. I made an album. Please look!

Thank you very much for the photos, (even if the wedding crowns photo did not show up). Quite the impressive group. Truely you enjoy design in every aspect of your life, which i heartily aplaud, and also say that you do it very well. God's blessings on your married life.
