What do you use?
This is a question to set me up for yet another Rob Roy style sporran project. I've fallen in love with the way they look, and simply must make myself a black one, a brown one, and a two tone one.
For Freelander and whoever else has made some wonderful Rob Roy style sporrans... what weight (thickness) leather do you use? I was thinking of maybe a 2 or 3 ounce (2 to 3 64ths of an inch, or .8 to 1.2 mm thick) leather. I'm seeing plenty of upholstery leather in that weight range in colors I like on eBay. I'm reluctant to buy any as I want to be sure I'm going to have the best stuff.
Anyone care to share their secrets?

Yes, upholstery is the right weight, however go to Tandy leathercrafts to get your leather. You can ALWAYS trust their goods. Do a google search.

Yep I agree . We use finest grade upholstery leather. It varies a little in thickness. we just buy that which feels right
