A Confession and an Apology
Ladies and Gentlemen of XMarks,
I want to share with you that today, I accidentally deleted the thread, “Quincy churches rally against Tilted Kilt pub.”
I was responding to a member’s request not to be listed as the Original Poster of the thread, “Membership Discussion of Possible Change to Rule #12”. I had edited the thread for me to be the OP and placed the link to merge my post with the thread. When I did so I discovered that my post was not in that thread but the “Quincy churches rally against Tilted Kilt pub” thread. I deleted my post. The result was not that I deleted my post but the entire thread. I made a big mistake.
Steve Ashton and KiltedCodeWarrior have been trying to resurrect the thread, but have concluded it is truly gone.
My sincere apologies to Joe1 the OP; and the rest of the Rabble for my error.
I am truly sorry and feel very badly for having done so.

I appreciate your apology.

I hate when things like that happen (and they do happen a little too frequently, even though technology is supposed to make things easier). I tried earlier this year to fix something on a shared group blog using a particular blogging software I normally don't use, and managed to mess up their photo album display. I don't know if they've fixed it since (they have been wanting to change it out to another format anyway). Oops.
Ah well. Thanks for letting people know, and sorry that happened.

"Shift happens" as keyboard jockeys say. ;)
No worries here, but thank you for admitting the error anyway.

having been a moderator on a forum I can feel your pain. Often there are too many executables for deleting an entire thread and not enough options to delete a post. Also I found that you can delete the entirety of a single member's postings but it's difficult to delete a single post by a member. All in all.. good on you for owning it and letting everyone know : )
May you live as long as you want and never want as long as you live

I do understand what happened as I too am a moderator of another forum, I know how that can happen.

As someone who has seen worse things happen when websites were updated by full-time professionals, I understand your embarrassment, and personally accept your apology. At least your actions did not take the entire site down for over three hours, and involve a dozen (sleepy) technicians and analysts to fix.
