In case you thought YOU were tough....

My friend Kristy Scott from Washington just lifted some serious iron.

Powerlifting records she set this winter....2 American records and a World record in RAW strength powerlifting ( minimal support clothing/gear) ... 407.9 pound back squat, 281.1 pound bench press, 490.5 pound deadlift .

That's 107 pounds more in the squat than my PR, though I hope to chip away at that 100+ pound difference in late January. I don't know what my single lift max is in flat bench, I never do it, but since I top out at about 185 in incline bench after a medium sequence, that means that probably my single rep max is about 195, possibly 200...fat chance. Therefore my single rep max flat bench is probably about 215-220. She's 60 pounds ahead of that.

I haven't even TRIED deadlifting more than 300 pounds, yet.

I bet Kristy weighs about 165-170. She's the nicest woman you could ever imagine, and has NO "attitude"...none, zip, zero. She's a Dr. of Physical Therapy.

Kristy was 2nd at the 2011 IGHF Amateur Womens World Championships this year, and would have won if she hadn't short-circuited something and no-heighted in the weight over the bar at something like 15 feet. 15 feet is a pretty damn good WOB throw for any woman, and Kristy COMES IN at 15 feet.

Kristy STANDS the womens WOB weight to 17 feet and change. She *almost* got 18 at Pleasanton last year, that's her goal for this year.

Just messin' around, I've cleared approximately 17 feet with the womens WOB at my practice field, but then I weigh about 285 to Kristys 165.

Yukon McCornelius, complete with Kilt and flat cap and semi-dress sporran mismatched with his scrunched down hose and black hiking boots. AWESOME!

Kristy....pretty darned lean before a bodybuilding contest last year. She doesn't look like this now, and didn't at Pleasanton. This one is from her FB page. You'd think she was scary, except that she's not, she's very humble and very sweet, though she's by no means "girly-girl". Honest.

Backsquat at what looks like about 315... lousy cell phone picture

Kristy the person is the epitome of Not Scary. She's actually quite humble. She's outrageously strong, but has no "attitude". The other women throwers really like her. Yeah, she doesn't wear makeup, nor does she wear fancy jewelry, and "couture" is kind of not in her vocabulary. When I saw the pictures of Kristy at the Emerald City bodybuilding contest last year, what really stuck out was the fact that her hair was cut in this really cute bob. I mean, she looked *Great*. That is so so so NOT Kristy.

But nice? You bet. Polite, considerate, and feminine? You bet, if you're not intimidated by physically strong women. No need to poop your kilt here.

.......well, except for that 490 pound deadlift. That's "pooping" material for sure!

That is some very impressive lifting. It is nice she is apparently also so humble about it. Compared to many other sports I have found strength athletes to be very nice people. My sons are powerlifters (although both would love to start the Highland games and I've started them with some training) and just went to IPL Worlds Championships this year in Las Vegas and everyone was as usual very supportive and helpful. My 13 year old did particularly well. At 5'8" and 160 pounds he squatted 225 and nearly got 250, benched 137 and deadlifted 308 pounds. Maybe someday we'll run into your friend. This was him on his last Deadlift of the day.

Thanks. Last Saturday we went to the camp pendleton championship and my youngest broke the national record for squat.

My oldest didn't break any records other than a personal best but here he deadlift 438 pounds and demonstrates two things. One nobody looks good deadlifting and two the hansen tongue. If we can't stick it out of the mouth we are incapable of physical activity.
