    Im tossing in September!

Well, being that im fairly stocky and I really want to get started in Highland Games, yet realize I am NOT at my full potential (for cabers and WFD) due to knee injury, I will only participate in the Sheaf Toss and the Hammer Toss at the Columbus, IN Games in Mid-September.

    I can't wait.

I got the dimensions for the hammer (rattan, 50", 22 pounds) and for the sheaf (rope filled burlap sack, 20+ pounds) and intend to make myself a couple for practice.

I used to be a National Team level rock free climber and also ran sponsored MX for a few years in my better years, so I understand the kinetics of these 2 throws I'll participate in.

Do you guys have any special tricks you use for training other than toss, toss...and more toss?

    Hector,

I have moved your thread to the Athletics forum where our Highland Athletes are more likely to see your post.

Check out the stickied threads "So you want to be an Athlete?" and "So you need some practice equipment?" at the top of this forum, they should be of help.

    Cheers

    Jamie

Hospitaller Jamie is right Yaish is the best person to talk to. But also get on the internet and check out throwing videos on you tube. Check out Craig Smiths site the kiltedthrower.com check out Ryan Vierra those are just a few. Also check out the how to build equipment thread. Great suggestions from the guys, I have been training since Feb. and actually throwing for about six weeks. Built all of my own equipment with the exception of a caber. This forum and the threads I have mentioned were of the utmost importance in doing this. That and picking the brains of Yaish and Alan H. Good luck and throw hard.
