So I've been debating on if I (my rehabbed knee) was up to getting into the games or not. St. Andrews, Livonia MI this weekend--yep--gonna give it a whirl and see what I can take! Ligaments and tendons be damned (they have beer there, right?) Gotta start sometime/somewhere, eh? May have to pass on the 56# and the caber if the knee is twitchy. I'll follow up with pictures and tales of battles and victory--or reports from the paramedics Wish me luck...and good luck to anyone else lettin' it rip this weekend! -Pete
Pete, I am in a similar situation whereas my knee has been bothering me for a few years snce I broke it. I decided I would start throwing at HG but I also didnt want to damage anything while having fun. I know I will not be competitive, but that doesnt mean I can not throw just the same. I decided to start with the Scottish Hammer, the sheaf and the weight for height, all at 22 pounds to play it safe. I've been practicing for a couple of weeks now and I can see that my knww can handle it, but practice doesnt compare to an actual event so im not sure about moving to the 56 pounder and the caber yet. good luck and take it easy on the knee

We don't call the 56-pounder "The Widowmaker" for nothing! Good luck! You can always opt out of one or two events if you have to. It will knock you out of the running for an award, but you still get the experience, and that's what counts. Let us know how it goes!
