Santa Cruz Ren Faire and Games

Sunday was a "pretty good day", I'd say. One of the two lads that I've been working with went out and bettered every single mark they posted at the Woodland Games a month ago. The other had his first Games and came out on the track with a roar. Wives, daughters and friends were in attendance and it's clear that everybody thinks they're studs! Life is good!

I had a mixed Games, which is going to sound pretty bizarre since I set three PR's!

Out of *Nowhere* I set a PR in the heavy weight for distance, going 28' 11" and wee bit more. I set a new PR in the Braemar Stone by going over 26 feet for the first time, ever. But the BIG news is that I finally..FINALLY... after four years of trying, broke 30 feet in the Open Stone. My first toss went 30' 3", and my 3rd toss scored me a 31' 4". FINALLY!... I'm respectable.

Hammers were consistent if not inspiring and I went 18 in the sheaf....not bad for someone who never practices!

    Alan,

Now wasn't it JUST last year you were fighting with the stones? Nice job!

Well done Alan, hopefully we will see you competing here in Scotland soon.

Yes, I turned a major corner with the stones early this season. I've gone from a 28-29 foot stone tosser to a 30-32 footer. Not bad. Now if I had just put up on the field the things I've been doing in practice with the light hammer and the LWFD I'd have been ecstatic! I actually won the "Geezer in Training" class in the sheaf, which was a shock.

I might also add that our new X Marker, O1dDude won the "Very Advanced thrower" class, and showed us all how it's done, with the sheaf.

A little practice is all it takes.

I really thought I was going to clear 22' but every time I tried a big pull, I lost the bag off to the side. Ended up just lobbing it but that was only good enough to make 21 feet and the bar was at 22'...As I said a little practice.
