Wah hoo!
Yay, my SHGA registration card arrived in the post today!
I am now a bona fide Highland Games Athlete.
Well, that's the difficult part over with, OBVIOUSLY...
Now all I have to deal with is the uncomfortable fact that I'll be throwing the men's gear (no jokes, boys. Tempting, but no) in most of the Games I attend, because in the UK, it's extremely rare for a Games to have a Ladies' class in the Heavy Events. So no half-weight girly gear will be available. Oh, help.
56lb weight for distance!
175lb, 20 foot long caber!
56lb weight over bar!
28lb stone put!
I am gonna look like Xena Flaming Warrior Princess by the time I'm done this summer. Only shorter, obviously, and not wearing a leather bikini, thank God.
I'm hoping for this, avec t-shirt and kilt:

...but will probably be lucky to get this:

Wish me luck, people! It's gonna be an interesting summer!

by the time you are done preparing...you will be eager to flaunt the Xena Leather Bikini and strut your stuff....
as for the games...all you have to do is match or beat one man and can consider yourself a winner just for trying. I am considering my first games this year as well...though I have no aspirations to wear a leather bikini...I just dont want to embarrass myself in the actual games. LOL
best of luck

After you get worked up for the games competing with men's gear then you can come to the states and whoop it up. You will find it easy after that. GOOD LUCK! Photos photos photos!

LOL thanks Trog - yes, I looked at her and thought 'hooves?' but then decided they were probably just shoes with a central seam.
Certainly easier than trying to grow hooves before May!

Thanks Tulloch, and believe me, there'll be photos!
If all goes well, I'd love to cross the pond to compete next year... guess we'll have to see about finances. Would be a real blast to spend a few months Stateside (and Canada-side) ripping it up at the Games and meeting some of you guys!
