Heavy Games Training Partners
Hi all, so after years of jumping out of planes, Mnt climbing, diving, adventure sports and boxing I have deiced to settle down a wee bit and take up Heavy Games competitions. LOL!! I live in Victoria BC and have a very flexible Wrk shead. with access to 3 area gyms. Are there any out there that would like to try some training? I started a heavy routine in the gym and anticipate gathering or making some training stones, cabers and irons myself. I live near Royal Roads University and I am a student there as well so access to the grounds-beach is a good start for trng without getting poked fun of (too Much). Of course after a heavy day of Trng, a dram/brew is in order! any takers?

Highland Games
I live in Texas, so I can't train with you.
Still, I wanted to reply with some encouragement.
The Highland Games are great.
I competed in a few games last year and fell in love.
The competitors are a pretty good bunch of men and women....very helpful
to one another.
Good Luck in your new endeavor, you will have a lot of fun and meet some wonderful people.

Get thee to http://www.nasgaweb.com and sign up. Let people know you are interested and ask around.
I know there's a throwing community in Victoria, but I think it's a bit small. I know that as of last year, they were having a problem filling a Masters Class at the Games, which is why I didn't go. However, there are several B-level athletes around, and you will learn a lot by working out with them.
Good luck, and maybe see you at Enumclaw!

Harder than it looks
So, I had my first Trng session with the Victoria Highland Games (Heavy Team) and throwing a stone and an Iron is waaay harder than it looks! The small weight for distance threw me out further than the iron should have gone and I wont even talk about the "BIG LOG"! So it an up hill battle every weekend from here out until the Games in Vic May 21/22. What a great bunch of folk patient, supportive and talented! Thanks for the intro to the HG, and I hope to post some photos of the Trng and games soon.

Stick with it Rogue. You will get more comfortable and improve with each practice.
