    Daughter's Wedding

    Good afternoon Rabble,

I need help. My daughter is getting married in April 2017 at the Morris Arboretum in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. It will be an outdoor, 6:00 pm, wedding. I am walking my daughter down the aisle in a kilt. I will be the only one kilted at the ceremony except for the bagpiper. I am comfortable in any attire from casual to formal. I went to USA Kilts outside Philly, EXCELLENT service and answered all my questions. I tried on a PC and Argyle jacket, loved them both. The groom and groomsmen are wearing suits. My question is do I go formal with PC or semi formal with Argyle or even a tweed kilt jacket? I plan on purchasing whichever one I decide to go with because I will wear to other functions also. Eventually all three will be purchased. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Personally, I'd go with the Argyle, as it's the most versatile. It can be worn with black tie or as suit equivalent.

The trick here is to ask yourself, what you would wear if you were not going to wear the kilt? Then find the kilt equivalent. So what would you wear if not the kilt?

I found myself asking the exact same question. I went with a Wallace jacket and waistcoat (actually, a Kilt Kut Jacket, to be exact). The jacket has the look of a modern suit jacket, however it is cut to work with a kilt. In the right colour, it is just as versatile as an Argyle with the exception of a "black tie" event. It is more appropriate IMHO than an Argyle, Craig or PC for the workplace, for example.

Because you are the father of the bride you could up the formality a notch. I'd consider going with the black argyle, but a tweed would also work fine.

You are giving the most important item at the wedding away. Argyle is my first choice. It will be versatile enough for later events.

I would go with a tweed, since it is for a wedding, and you are the father of the bride, I would suggest a charcoal tweed. Unlike the "country tweeds" they are a little dressier, I believe, and will fit more closely with the other gentlemen if they are in suits. The PC is a very formal jacket, if you go by orders of dress, and the Black Barathea Silver Buttoned Argyll is the equivalent of morning dress. from a strictly economical point of view, I purchased a BBSBA several years ago, and it mostly hangs in the closet. My tweed jacket, however, gets regular wear.

Whatever you decide, congratulations to you and your wife for raising a wonderful young woman; and to her on her engagement.

    Might I recommend something....

Perhaps you should ASK THE BRIDE.

Yep, she's your daughter. Yep, your paying a big chunk (I'm assuming). Nope, it's not your call because it's her day.

Take your daughter with you and show her the different options. Then, let her make the call.

My daughter and wife went with me to USA Kilts the day I went. We drove down from Maine, surprised our daughter to go dress shopping and they were 20 minutes away from the dress shop. She liked both the PC and Argyll jackets. We did not try on a tweed, the thought never crossed our minds. At the time my F-S-I-L was thinking tux but he has since decided a suit. Probably change his mind by time he gets back from the Dominican Republic. We will probably go down to Philly again before Christmas and head over to USA Kilts. I think I am more stressed then the ladies, they all have their outfits and bling ordered. LOL!

If the groom and groomsmen wear suits, go with a tweed jacket and necktie. If he decides on a tux, wear a Prince Charlie and black tie.
