Going on a cruise
Hi all,
Amy and I for our yearly vacation are going to the Bahamas on a Disney cruise. I know that they have at least one night on the seven days that are black tie and possibly one on the five day we are taking. There is a restaurant that requires coat and tie.
Since we don't want to bring the contents of our closets we have to pick and choose fairly carefully. I will have to get (and bring) at least one jacket. I have a PC but I was thinking that would be a bit much it it wasn't a black tie event but if I get an Argyle and waist coat would it be enough if they have a black tie?
I am hoping that the coat and waistcoat could be mixed and matched for various modes of dress.
Any advise?
Jim

If it were me, and I were taking only a single jacket, it would be the black argyle. You can dress it up while still having a not overly formal look on other occasions. Of course, you might be the only one kilted, so just be sure you have your sea legs back on incase there is a high sea state!!

I agree. A black Argyle jacket (not tweed) could be worn with a bow tie or regular tie. You would look fine, and would not have to pack two jackets.

One jacket? Black Argyll has my vote as well. You could always bring the 3-button PC waistcoat along which lends a more formal look to the Argyll as well.

I was kilted on my honeymoon cruise and can only beseech you to be "the man and a half in the kilt".
Order Guiness only at the bar, college boys ordering fizzy yellow water will respectfully mutter "of course" under their breath with predictable regularity.
Also be sure your wife has the smile that gets bigger when someone asks if she is with the man in the kilt. Not the guy, not the dude, the man in the kilt.
I would pack just the Argyle.

*** me too -- I've cruised kilted and only had a P.C. for formal dinners but wished I'd had a black Argyll for versatility. In a black Argyll with waistcoat and bow tie you will look as much if not more formal as anyone else at the "formal dress" dinners -- with your kilt too, of course.

I vote for the Argyll, but am wondering if anyone will notice the jacket when they're fascinated by your very unique kilt hose.
