3 piece suit source?
I have been searching high and low for a used 3 piece suit. I intend to take the jacket and waistcoat and convert them for kilt wear. I hope to emulate the style of HRH Prince Charles, Duke of Rothsay.
After 2 1/2 months of searching thrift stores, resale shops and goodwill stores and longer still searching craigslist, I have found only two 3 piece suits, neither fit me. Yes, I visited each shop 5+ times each month
Is it possible that someone out there amongst the rabble has an idea of somewhere else I can look? Even a super-cheap new suit is way out of my price range.

Is it a basic resale/thrift store? Such stores are plentiful here in Chicago, but none have 3-piece suits.
Thanks anyway

Re: 3 piece suit source?
In Georgia they are Baptist churche's giveing away free suit's as a Dotanation.
I give money to help the church but the suit's are mostly in great shape as most people dont want the tweed's and wool so I grab them up and my wife make's Kilt jacket's out of them.
Any way it is a thought .

Re: 3 piece suit source?
I had the same luck as you in finding a 3-piece suit at resale shops. Not enough people wear them. Or maybe the ones that wear them KEEP THEM! So I bought mine new. I didn't really want to spend that kind of coin on it, but it was an emergency (my mother's funeral), so I bit the bullet and did it anyway. Of course, that was a purchase to keep as a complete suit, not convert for kilt-wear.

Google returned this: http://www.dressthatman.com/cat-SUIT-3pc.htm
There are several online vintage clothing vendors that might have what you're looking for. Or eBay.

Re: 3 piece suit source?
Good luck finding thrift 3 piece suits. I thrift shop dive often, and havn't seen one (except for children's sizes) in a long time. You may have luck in a retail "retro" or "vintage" clothing store. I've come across a few interesting items there.
Consignment clothing stores are another option. But many do not take in gentlemen's clothing and focus on women's garments instead. So call first, or visit thier website if they have one.

Spring is the time to find jackets and suits in thrift shops, as people are thinning out their winter wear, assuming they'll never need it again.
In my town, there's a homeless men's shelter which has a thrift shop attached. The proceeds from the shop help support the shelter. I've found a few nice wool jackets there, but have never looked for suits.
You might try calling different churches in your neighborhood. They'll know which ones have clothes closets.

When given a choice, most people will choose.

Re: 3 piece suit source?
Boy, now that you mention it, i think that I've never seen a complete three piece suit in any of the resale stores that I raid. Maybe they break them up and the trousers and vests are sold separately?
Better luck, perhaps, at garage or estate sales...they tend to keep thing together at those.
Maybe you should give out your size and color preferences just in case any vigilant forum member should happen to run across something.

Thanks AA. I have seen them as complete sets, but only rarely.
To any "vigilant forum member" who happens to see a XXL (Size 48) three-piece suit in charcoal grey, light grey or lovat green... I will reimburse you immediately! If you are outside chicago, I will pay shipping.
