Adapting a Cheap Leather Sporran
OK Rabble,
I've just received in the post the following delectable item:

It's fine; it's not too fancy, the tassels don't annoy me, I like the engraved pattern and the wee metal studs. So far so fab.
Unfortunately, it fastens with a press-stud (popper), and I canNOT make the damn thing pop reliably. So I want to remove the press-stud, and have it fasten some other way. Some other way that is easy for me to do, that is. I was envisaging some kind of loop and pin arrangement like this:

Suggestions, please!

I am interested to see how this project progresses.
I would imagine some basic leather tools and the hardware shouldn't be too spendy to acquire

tandy leather sells some interesting clasps.

This is the one I bought. I haven't used it yet but think it would nice as a sporran clasp. There were others also. The pin isn't there but the one eye piece could be useful.

Magnetic
Perhaps something that doesn't interfere with the embosing, like a magnetic latch. I do'nt have a photo of one, but I believe there are some Buzz Kidder sporrans that use them. Donnie, at Wyvvern Leatherworks (red banner at the bottom of the page) may be able to provide more input and possible suppliers of such things.
Best of luck!

I too had a problem with the snap closure. I put a piece of velcro near the snap and it works just fine.
Stick on velcro can be purchased a Home Depot, Lowe's, or haardware stores

Wah hoo, thanks everybody - we have Tandy in the uk too, yippee! Though if I decide not to go for one of those awesome swivel clasps, I will probably make a pin closure using a big old flat handmade nail I have in my shed...
Will update when decision is made.

Hmm, most of the clasps would obscure too much of the thistle design...
am thinking velcro or magentic clasp or pin closure.
What's the loop thingy called that the pin drops into?
