Advice for the Renn Faire people, on a budget.

At halloween, I wore my kilt, with jacobite shirt. My wife has a red tartan skirt, but didn't want to wear it. (men wore kilts, after all). So she sewed an old-fashioned "poofy" dress, for herself. It's made from a shiny material. Has a midriff of a different, but accent color, sewn in. It looks great on her. So, next year, at the AZ Ren Fest, (if I can talk her into it), she'll wear her dress, and me in my kilt outfit. Hopefully I'll have a few more accessories by then. Looking around the AZ Ren fest, which I recently attended, I saw women dressed as pirates, as wenches, as belly dancers, medieval or rennaisance women. Then I saw some, who had a combo of things on their costumes: like a "wench" dress, with blingy-looking belly dancer things hanging from their waists, and some with hats. Pirate, Scottish highlander, you name it, I saw it. The key is to be COMFORTABLE. Saw one guy, dressed like Atilla the Hun, or Genghis Kahn (not sure), with furs and a blanket, as part of his costume, in ARIZONA?!?!?!?! Oh well, to each his own.

They're not hurting anybody, and they're having fun. In my book, that's a WIN.

If someone is mortally offended by the mishmash of costumery found at Faire, then by all means they should stay home and avoid the stress.

Back in Colorado we had guys would would be in their Strom Trooper costumes at the Ren Fest. One guy even wore a kilt over his Storm Trooper gear.
Great for you guys finding something comfy!
I've really simplified, a big poofy skirt and a mens shirt keep me cool and keep the sun off, and they are still getting use here in Utah. Arizona is probably a little warmer than Colorado.
