    DIY Culture

So glad I grew up DIY in the old Punk/Metal scene.

I tried sourcing some inexpensive kilts - duties are one and a half times the price of the kilts (was going to deconstruct and reconstruct to get the idea down). Adapt, improvise and overcome..... Now trying to source some tartan material down here, too bad I live in a small town with limited potential. I really do not want to go modern kilt - maybe I am a caveman, but what has worked for the last three or four hundred years has to still work (I am partial to tartans).

So now, sourcing a tartan.... Gonna hit Cordoba next month, trying to get the rental together to give back to the place.

    Wish me luck

Remember that anyone can source Tartan fabric the same way that a kilt shop does. Contact the weavers that actually produce the fabric. Just like a kilt shop does.

The problem of course is that there are not that many weavers of Kilt quality Tartan fabric left in the world. In that respect Argentina is not that much different from N. America. We have to source our fabric from a distance too.

The exact same sources for kilt making instructions are the same all over the world. If you want to make a traditional kilt you order a copy of "The Art of Kiltmaking". If you want instructions for a down and dirty weekend project you download the X Kilt manual. Both are sourced right here on X Marks. Barb Tewksbury, found on the right advertisers banner, is both the author and publisher of "The Art of Kilmaking". The link to download the X Kilt manual is in the DIY section.

Lots of other differences - some "intelligent" politician here put a huge trade embargo against everyone except Venezuela and China. My buddy sent me some refried beans and fritos (don't judge) - I had to pay 40 USD in duties (well worth the 800 ARS - one day of groceries, he sent the spicy refried beans).

I cannot justify a book to the wife (800 ARS plus another 1200 ARS, she'll cut me bad haha), so that is out, so it looks like X-kilt and non tartan.... For now

I will wrestle with the Tartan Society here too - I don't give up easily.
