Question DIY HELP! Dyeing a Tweed Jacket?

I found myself a really good deal on a used tweed kilt jacket on eBay a while back, which I thought was going to be a medium dark-grey, but turned out to be a lightish green-grey. Now I'm thinking about trying to dye it to a darker shade, because I already have a lovat green tweed Crail jacket and I want a bit more variety.

Has anybody tried this before? Any advice?

I'd advise against it, sorry, but there are many things that could go wrong, and probably would! Unless you know how it was constructed you are going to run into shrinking issues with the inner linings and possibly hair canvas as well, the felt collar unders might go fluffy or worse. The stitching might not take the dye, although contrast stitching can look interesting if it is a design feature.Wool can be dyed successfully , but normally as actual wool or yarn, sometimes as cloth, but hardly ever as a finished garment, sorry.

I really don't think this would turn out well and would likely ruin the jacket.

Perhaps a trade instead? I have a couple tweed Argylls that might be your size.

Well, I'm glad I asked here first, rather than just giving it a try and ruining a perfectly good jacket

David, that is a kind offer! I'm a 38R, though I think this jacket might be a closer to a 40R... maybe I should measure it and send you a PM.
