First attempt to make a kilt - Czech National

    Hi all,

I have finally finished my first DIY kilt (Czech national tartan). Following your advices I decided to pleat to the sett. The kilt is fully hand sewn, not everything is "traditional" and I know it is not perfect, but I am very lucky to do it with my own hands. I hope you will find my first attempt satisfactory. But your remarks are always welcome. And I hope, all pictures will be visible for you.

Looks great! Amazing result for a first attempt. And I really like the Czech national tartan. Nice colors. Is there a description of why those colors were chosen?

For a first attempt that is amazing. Heck for a 21st attempt that would still look very good.

Great job, I hope one day to have my own Czech National Tartan kilt. I will be attempting my first kilt soon but don't have the guts to try it with a custom weave.

I forgot to ask, what is the sett size and fabric weight?

I agree. Some day I will also have a kilt in this tartan. The explanation of the colours is on the Czech "Kilt" website, but I'm afraid it's all in Czech.

Additional details are offered on the official tartan register website: http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/tar....aspx?ref=5516

    Translation of the original follows:

Here is the explanation of the makeup of this tartan: The basic colours of the tartan are made up of green and blue -- the colours of water and forests, so widespread throughout the Czech Republic that these words are sung in the national anthem. The central motif is the Czech tricolor, between which are interspaced two yellow lines. These are representative of two historic lands -- Moravia and Silesia. The black lines remind us of two historic events of the 20th century that negatively impacted the development of the Czech Republic -- the Nazi occupation and the the era of "life behind the Iron Curtain."

WOW! If that's your first attempt, I'll be looking out for your second and third! Very well done! I can barely sew a loose button...
