Flashes and Source for Grosgrain Ribbon

Many times we see questions about flashes. I have been looking for just the right color flashes for many different looks. I decided I needed to make my own as only the standard colors are out there. Some venders branch out from the norm but I also need to justify the cost of this bit of added color. As I was searching I came across this site that sells by-the-yard and has just about any color you could want. If you only buy the ribbon (4 feet per set) and reuse your existing elastic garters you could have 77 different color sets for about $30 plus tax and shipping, a little more for double or tripple loop flashes.

I haven't ordered from them yet but I had to share the find.
Also if you 'Like' them on facebook you could win a $50 gift certificate, thus making all those flashes free.

    Kevin,

Fantastic site, thank you for sharing. I suppose this ribbon could also be used to make your own cockade in the livery colours of your chief, or if armigerous, your own. Best of luck with your "flash-making."

    Cheers,

Unless you want to go into the flashes making business you might not need all of those colors. Ribbon flashes are simple to make and the cost is minimal. Go to a fabric store, buy a yard or so of whatever color ribbon you need and appropriate lengths of elastic. Snip, snip, stich, stich - you've got it made.

***. Any fabric store will have hundreds of colours of grosgrain ribbon, and you can buy as little or as much as you need, without having to pay for shipping or wait for it to come in. They also have elastic bands of every width, velcro (if you like that sort of thing), and even small buckles for the elastic. Grosgrain ribbon is one of the most common things in a fabric store, and there will usually be an entire wall full of the stuff.

I have been to many local fabric stores but I have found none with the varity I have seen on this site and the stores all seem to carry the same colors or they don't have the color I want in the width I want. This is just an option if there is a color your really must have.

Being the cheap Celt I am, I decided to see what it would take to make my own flashes. I bought a yard of a number of different colors of grosgrain, elastic, and some velcro. I cranked out about half a dozen sets of flashes in no time at all. I picked up everything I needed at the local fabric store for very little money.
